What To Take To College

Do You Have a College Supply List?

You’ve waited a long time for this day to come: The day you head off to college. You’ve probably been thinking about this day for years, and preparing for it for the last year or longer, but now that it’s here, there is still more to think about. Specifically, what to take to college. You’ll need the obvious school supply type things such as pens, paper, etc. But what about dorm life? Here’s a basic list of things you don’t want to forget:

Electronics

You’ll take your computer of course, but don’t forget batteries, adaptors, flash drives, headphones, cellphone, and your camera.

Things For Your Room

You’ll be living here; don’t forget daily essentials such as an alarm clock, desk lamp, storage trays, etc. Look around your bedroom at home, and plan accordingly. An organizer for your desk is a great way to keep from losing items you need for class.

Toiletries

In addition to basic toiletries such as soap, shampoo and toothpaste, you’ll need shower shoes, and a shower caddy to tote your stuff to and from the showers. Don't forget a shaving kit (whether for your face or legs) and a shower robe.

Shared Items

Talk to your roommate before hand to determine who will bring what. You’d hate to have two microwaves but no TV. Furniture, kitchen items and even cleaning supplies and household items can all probably be shared, but need to be discussed before moving in or early on in the process to avoid arguments.

Household

Cleaning supplies, toilet paper, sheets, and laundry items are all things you need to think about before you leave. Laundry items include detergent, stain remover, fabric softener, and laundry basket. Also bring a fabric pen to make sure important items are labeled.

Miscellaneous

You’ll probably want to have some things to remind you of home such as family photos, and things like an umbrella may come in handy of you have to walk to class everyday.

While you can probably purchase just about anything you may need once you get there, planning ahead can save you money and aggravation when it comes to what to take to college.
