Clemson University is located in Clemson, S.C., on the shores of Lake Hartwell and in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The 1,400-acre campus is situated on what was once Fort Hill Plantation, the homestead of Thomas Green Clemson and before him, his father-in-law, John C. Calhoun. In his will, Mr. Clemson stipulated that his home and its surrounding farmland be used to establish a college for agricultural and scientific education.
More than 750 Clemson students from a broad range of disciplines—from engineering to English—helped research, design and create outdoor learning areas for the city’s new elementary school. Classes from all of Clemson’s academic colleges participated, working with faculty and the community to create a living, learning environment for the school’s campus. Another innovative Clemson program—Communication-Across-the-Curriculum (CAC)—also combines teaching, research and service. CAC integrates oral, written and visual communication in all disciplines. Professors discard long lectures and multiple-choice tests and instead provide students with practical challenges that teach them to think and communicate effectively. The program has been so successful that TIME magazine named Clemson as its 2001 “Public College of the Year” based on the strength of CAC. A Complete Education If you want more out of your college experience than lectures and papers, you’ll find it at Clemson. The Clemson experience is about connecting to others, striving for excellence in all areas and becoming part of a family.
Note: Clemson University offers those who apply for freshman admission by December 1st a decision on (or shortly thereafter) February 15th for the fall term of 2006. To find out about visiting Clemson, contact:
