When it comes to reference iPad applications, distance nursing degree students have quite a few choices! From free to paid, the medical apps below will go a long way in helping you prepare for what lies ahead.

Medscape – Medical reference, drug database for both name brand and generic options, this nursing app for the iPad even includes images! Get the scoops on common procedures in this handy and info-packed reference app. Did My College Guide forget to mention that it’s also free?

MediMath Medical Calculator – Don’t waste time trying to hunt down specific formulas in your college textbook. Using the MediMath Medical Calculator, you can easily reference 135 medical calculators and scoring tools. You’ll find plenty here! University of Notre Dame Apple iPad Class Puts the Fun Back in Lecture

Yearning for an Apple iPad? For college students at the University of Notre Dame in Notre Dame, Indiana, the Apple iPad is part of a normal day in class! Technology has leapt forward and students at the University of Notre Dame are moving along with it, by having a chance to make full use of the Apple iPad as part of an actual college course, not an iPad application development class.

Nicknamed the “iPad Class,” it is actually a course on Project Management, and, as you can see from the video below, Corey Angst, assistant professor of management, hopes that this unusual classroom accessory will help his students be at ease with technological trends and the coming digital revolution! This “iPad Class” has the University of Notre Dame students using the sleek device’s eReader capability for an electronic version of their required college textbook, as well as for note-taking needs – and many are making use of it during downtime, thanks to a slew of gaming apps.

One Book, One Twitter: World Summer Reading Twitter Project

Do you have that summer reading list in your hands already?  What if you could expand your critical thinking skills in a different way, like sharing your thoughts about a classic novel — with the WORLD.  With the “One Book, One Twitter” project started by Jeff Howe of Crowdsourcing – it’s possible!

One Book, One Twitter Project: One Book to Rule Them AllIn what will hopefully turn out to be an annual Twitter summer international reading book club, the One Book, One Twitter project could prove to be an awesome way for you to hone a few skills pre-college, like critical thinking, listening, and contributing something of value to a conversation — and ward off summer boredom in the process!

The 140 character limitations could help you learn how to organize and focus your thoughts, stop the rambling, and get to the point (crucial skills for college – and beyond)!

With the One Book, One Twitter project, the goal is to aim for a book with universal appeal, a book that not only has been translated into many languages but one that is also available for free, so you can participate without spending a dime!  You know colleges will check out your online profiles anyway – why not give them something good to discover: a college bound student showing a definite interest in the written word.

Books currently topping the voting chart? Classics like American Gods by Neil Gaiman, 1984 by George Orwell, and Farenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury to name a small sample of the contenders!  You can head on over and vote for your favorite before voting ends next week.  Our only question is: Will the One Book, One Twitter project hashtag, #1b1t, serve to beat out Justin Beiber as a trending topic?  We’ll be watching – and reading, of course!  And, just think: if you enter (and win) our Apple iPad contest – you could be reading and participating using an iPad of your very own!

An iPad App to Make You Smile…or Doodle

What makes My College Guide happy?  Previews for what look to be a totally useable and completely awesome app for the soon to be released Apple iPad that will be just perfect for college life !  Have you met PadNotes?

After reading about the possibilities of this exciting iPad application recently mentioned on Fast Company – we just had to pass it along!  With the PadNotes app, you can doodle or write (and then some) on any PDF document!  Sounds like fun, don’t you think?  As you might recall, Apple’s sleek new tablet is due out in stores on April 3, 2010.  Don’t forget – My College Guide is giving you a chance to win an iPad of your very own!  You can’t win if you don’t enter!  Now, check out this video and prepare to be amazed!

Apple iPad: it’s ALL the Rage — Even in Higher Ed!

Sleek 'n Shiny: the Apple iPad! If you think your high school textbooks are heavy now…just wait until college!  But, if Apple has its way, the sleek 1.5 lb Apple iPad tablet could end up changing the way you learn at college…and possibly save you a few bucks (and your back) in the process.

How?  With eBook capability built right into the multi- touch-sensitive device (and their own iBookstore)!  Almost 150,000 iPhone applications will cross-over from Day One – so you can use your favorite iPhone apps to help fill out your college applications or take a break with a little Plants vs. Zombies, without having to wait!

No drab gray here, the iPad is all about color – and interaction!  Touch highlighted words (like vocab or concepts) for more information.  Create bookmarks to pick up where you left off, browse a touch activated slideshow, and flip through images, charts, or diagrams.  Surf the web or watch an awesome college video lecture.  Think of the possibility!

Pick a social media network and chances are somebody, somewhere is talking about it – what they heard, what they read, what they hope to see — and who can blame them?  Even colleges share in the iPad enthusiasm!  The Abilene Christian University student newspaper, The Optimist, is the first college newspaper to declare their intention to be on the iPad –  or, at least, it will be when the Apple iPad (finally!) hits stores April 3, 2010.

Don’t forget about George Fox University!  GFU is offering incoming students a choice between a computer (as they have done for the past 20 years) or the new iPad tablet.  Great idea for GFU’s computer possessing freshmen – or for those planning to purchase eBook textbooks down the line – and hoping to save big in place of hefty college texts.
