Thanks for the comment - true, they're not all "college towns," but the article was more about places that a college student would enjoy living, regardless of the town or city size. Thank you for the additions!

Chapel Hill, Middlebury and Madison are the only three on this list that I would consider "college towns." The others are big cities that happen to have colleges. When I think of college towns, I think of places that grow in kind of a symbiotic way to rely on each other for survival, for growth, and yes, for balancing out. I've lived in 3 other true college towns. I grew up in Clemson, SC (Clemson University), spent nearly 15 years in State College, PA (Which would not be known as Happy Valley if Penn State wasn't there), and I now live in Athens, Georgia. So with your three actual college towns, plus my three, we need 4 more. How about Lubbock, TX (Texas Tech), Auburn, AL, (Auburn(, College Park, Md (U of Maryland) and College Station, TX (Texas A & M).Now THOSE are college towns.

There isn't anything wrong with your other 6 towns, as they are good places for college students, but I grew up in a college town, so I just see it from a different perspective. If students are looking for a great "college town" experience, they're not going to find it in DC, for example.
