There are many factors that go into the admission officer’s decision as to whether or not you get accepted or denied. While some college admission officers may dance around the issue, the truth of the matter is that there are colleges that use SAT (or ACT) scores as the top priority. Every school has a different minimum SAT score they’re looking for in their college applicants, but it’s important to know what these scores are for the colleges you’re interested in applying to.
One of the reasons that the SAT score is used as a determining factor is because it is a more objective way to compare candidates. Numerical values such as test scores are easier to compare than subjective items such as which extra curricular activities the student is involved in. Your activities, part-time job experience and life experiences can help to put you over the top if an admission officer is wavering on whether or not to drop the acceptance letter in the mail to you. Since SAT scores do play such an important role though, be sure to find out the score you need to aim for in order to get into the college you’re applying to.
